EXPERIENCE SWEDEN ANEW
JUNE 16 – 27, 2018
TAKE A JOURNEY OF CULTURE, TEXTILES, ART, AND HISTORY
This trip has been created to deliver an exceptional cultural and social experience of Sweden. The journey will take the traveler to Stockholm and the provinces of Dalarna and Hälsingland.
All of above mentioned areas are very rich in history, culture, and traditions. Many of the places you will visit are not included in regular tourist trips.
You will for example experience a Midsummer Celebration in Rättvik in the province of Dalarna – a traditional celebration of one of the most important days of the year, rivaling Christmas with its festive spirit and traditions. It’s celebrated in June when the sun might set for only 3-4 hours. It’s a beautiful time in Sweden with lots of wild flowers on the side of the roads with the white birch trees in the background.
HIGHLIGHTS IN STOCKHOLM
Our journey will take you to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden with Gamla Stan (The Old City) which is one of the biggest and well preserved medieval Old Cities in Europe with the famous Royal Palace and the Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) where the Swedish Royals are married.
In Stockholm you will also see several museums. The Vasa Museum being one of the most visited museums in all of Scandinavia, being home to the only intact 17th century ship in the world. We will also make a visit to Handarbetets Vänner, which has been an operating weaving school since 1881.
Not to be overlooked is “Skansen”, the world’s oldest open-air museum, showing houses and farmsteads from the 18, 19 and 20th century.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PROVINCE OF DALARNA.
Dalarna seems to be the province that is considered more Swedish than ABBA and IKEA combined. It’s also the province where the brightly colored Dala Horses are carved.
People just seem to get inspired to do great thing in Dalarna. Take Anders Zorn, and Carl Larsson, two of Sweden’s most loved artists, who set up their homes in this area. You can see both Zorn garden in the town of Mora and Carl Larsson’s home and art in Sundborn, an icon of Swedish interior design and family life.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PROVINCE OF HALSINGLAND.
Hälsingland is located about 190 miles north of Stockholm. In this province you can find unspoiled natural beauty from the long beaches to green and lush valleys to towering mountains.
Besides the beauty of the land in this area we will see richly decorated farm houses – “Farm castles” – declared an Unesco Heritage Site. The houses reflect local architecture and folk art traditions in a highly distinctive way, which can be seen as the peak of a folk culture with deep roots in north-western Europe.
While traveling through the countryside you will also have opportunities to try local foods, listen to music, see and buy local crafts and art.
